Explanation of How Password Changes Work

Your Computer Password

Your computer password is used to unlock the computer and is stored locally on the computer. That password is used by the computer to access local security systems and cloud systems.

Moteurs-Baudouin Password

The password is stored on the main server in our office at Cassis. That password is used to access local security systems like file servers (Q:, T:, U:), local databases, and print servers.

Microsoft Cloud Password

The password is stored in Microsoft cloud. That password is used to access cloud applications like Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerApp, PowerBI, and others.

Best Case Scenario: Password has not expired and you're connected to the office network

To change your password, press the 3 keys: Ctrl + Alt + Del and select "Change a password." Enter the current password and the new password.

In this scenario, the PC is connected in the office at Cassis OR the PC is connected through VPN to the office. A request is sent to the main server to change the password. The change is checked by the server, and if compliant with the security system, the server updates the password and returns a validation code to the computer. Then the server sends the updated password to Microsoft Cloud.

In this scenario, you will notice that the computer password didn't get updated immediately. The computer will get the update from the main server. To trigger this update, you need to lock the computer: Press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select "Lock," then unlock the computer with the new password. The computer has now stored the new password but is still using the old password. You need to reboot for the computer to use the new password.

Office365 Applications:

The programs Office365, OneDrive, Teams, Outlook will ask you to enter the new password.

> Important: If a Microsoft window appears, go to the bottom and uncheck "Allow my organization to manage my device" then click "Yes, all applications."

Worst Case Scenario: Password has expired and you're not connected to the office network

The PC is NOT connected to the office at Cassis, you're working remotely, and since the password has expired, you can't connect to the VPN.

In this scenario, you need to connect to our extranet server here: Remote Desktop Access - Web Client

Enter your username: family name _ first letter of your first name Example: leclercq_y and your current password. The system will then ask you to change your password. The new password is directly set on the main server, which updates Microsoft cloud.

You can close the web client.

You need to set your computer password with the same password: To change your password, press the 3 keys: Ctrl + Alt + Del and select "Change a password." Enter the current password and the new password you just set on the web client.

Now restart the computer and log in with the new password. All systems are now set with the new password.
